On 11 October, the Galga recognised a British convoy of 15 sails. As she approached, she spotted 11 merchantmen protected by the Lennox (56c) and 4 merchant frigates (20c).
Garayoechea devised a plan to capture the Lennox by luring her away from the convoy and bringing her closer to the next Real Familia (60c). The Lennox moves away with the Galga but when Garaycoechea gives the signal for the Real Familia to attack he receives orders to withdraw from Reggio.
The Real Familia withdraws but Garaycoechea disobeys the order and after breaking contact and making some quick repairs continues the pursuit. She again made contact with the convoy late in the afternoon, catching up with the frigate Bahasser (20c) which was protecting the rear of the convoy. The Lennox is also close but ignores the frigate's warnings and flees. After heavy fighting the Bahasser surrenders. Garaycoechea rejoins the rest of the Spanish fleet at dawn with the captured Bahasser.
