while off Cape Corso, [the Apollo] sighted and chased the French store-ship Merinos and a corvette. The Merinos, which was pierced for 36 guns, but mounted only twenty long 8-prs., struck, after she had lost 6 killed and 20 wounded. The corvette escaped. The Apollo, although exposed for some time to the fire of works on shore, had no one hurt
