Notes on Action

DescriptionTRN5
On April 16th, being off the town of Policastro, in Campania, the Pilot, 18, Commander John Toup Nicolas, discovered nine coasting vessels hauled up on the beach. Having anchored close in, and opened fire in order to drive off any troops that might be in the immediate neighbourhood, she sent in her boats, under Lieutenant Alexander Campbell; and, in face of some slight resistance, brought off all the craft without casualty. On the 28th, the same sloop fell in with a large convoy protected by several gun-vessels; but, as it was quite calm, she could not manoeuvre, and they escaped.
