The Cameleon "demanded the Dutchman and commanded him to strike the flag, but Verbaan, although much less armed, refused and gave him broadside, which was followed by a fierce and stubborn fight. Up to half ten lasted, when the Patriot with a thunderous violence flew in the air, covering the enemy ship with corpses and maimed. The Cameleon was so irretrievably he reached the English port with great difficulty and had a considerable number of deaths. The casualties on the Patriot left 19 widows and 54 needy orphans behind.
