The confusion over Pickersgill's service on Drake and Resolution is a result of the Admiralty changing the name of the ship in December 1771. It was considered too contentious to send Cook into the Pacific with ships named Drake and Raleigh, so they were renamed Resolution and Adventure. All officers had to be recommissioned with the new name of the ship they were appointed to.

Pickersgill was a midshipman on the HMS Dolphin's voyage across the South Pacific, then he served on the HMS Endeavour on James Cook's first Pacific voyage

An error in dates here. From 1772 Pickersgill was 3rd lieutenant on the HMS Resolution, serving under Captain Cook on his second Pacific voyage. He joined the Drake after this.
