Hull, 6 January 1800: Lord Bridport retires from the command of the Channel fleet with a considerable increase to his fortune: in the late capture of the Spanish plate frigates, he shares half an eighth of the prizes, the other moiety going to the Admirals serving under him: by this stroke of fortune alone, his Lordship will realise £50,000.
