DEATH OF SIR ROGER CURTIS
We regret to have to announce the decease of that distinguished Officer, Admiral Sir Roger Curtis, Bart. and G.G.B. The public services of this eminent man, particularly at the famous siege of Gibraltar, by the combined powers of France and Spain, where his conduct rendered him as conspicuous for humanity as for heroism and professional skill, must be fresh in the general recollection; the kindness of his heart, and the benignity of his manners, endeared him to the circle of his family and friends. He was knighted in 1782 for his gallant, humane, and judicious conduct at the siege of Gibraltar. He was on board the Royal Charlotte, with Lord Howe, and greatly distinguished himself in the memorable action of the glorious 1st of June 1794 after which he was created a Baronet; and was Commander in Chief at the Cape of Good Hope in 1801. He was both a very able and a very good man. He died at his seat at Gatcombe, near Portsmouth at a very advanced age, and is succeeded in his titles and estates by his only son, a Captain in the navy, now Sir Lucius Curtis, Bart.
