As Matthew Barton was childless when he died his will includes bequests to his nephews including

Charles Barton, Rector of St Andrew, Holborn (where Matthew Barton also instructs he wishes to be buried
Captain Robert Barton of the Navy (who ultimately ends up a Rear-Admiral)

The CCED (Clergy of the Church of England Database) shows that Charles Barton was Rector at St Andrew Holborn from 1781-1806. His predecessor as Rector was Cutts Barton who held the position from 1734-1781. A check on Ancestry shows the following baptisms (amongst others) at St Andrew Holborn:

Charles Barton son of Cutts & Joanna Barton 2 Mar 1751
Robert Barton son of Cutts & Joanna Barton 26 Oct 1753
Matthew Barton son of Cutts & Joanna Barton 26 Oct 1753

So Cutts Barton is the brother of Admiral Matthew Barton and even named one of his children after him

Fortunately CCED gives the father of Cutts Barton as Geoffrey Barton, Rector of Rushton, Northamptonshire and amongst the numerous Barton children in the parish register for Rushton we have:

Cutts, son of Jeffery & Elizabeth Barton born 5 Oct 1706
Matthew, son of Jeffery & Elizabeth Barton born 2 Aug 1716

So at present there doesn't appear to a connection to the Bartons oPettigo, Ireland
