De la Mettie Baudran was captain of _Apollon_ during her voyage to the Indian Ocean in 1745–48. When _Apollon_ captured _Anglesea_, her captain was Julian Pepin de Belle-Isle. As a consequence of the capture, Pepin de Belle-Isle was awarded a commission as lieutenant de vaisseau in the French Royal Navy.
