The Napoleonic wars ended in 1815, the Royal Navy paid off many ships in 1815 and soon after. The reduction in the size of the navy meant a similar reduction in the need for officers. Many never served in the Royal Navy again, it would appear these included your ancestor.
He died c.1858

My great great great grandfather. I would very much like to know more about him. Is there a record of why he was placed on half pay in 1816. When did he die?
