According to the 'Amsterdamsche Courant' 17th February 1748, Capt. Gregory was shot in a duel by a secretary of his ship, and buried in the town of Middelburg, Netherlands. According to the burial registers of Middelburg, Thomas Gregorij was buried there in the New Church on 8th of February 1748, three days after his death. The secretary fled away. Grefory was captain of the Brithish Admiral's ship (Austrian Secession War; English ships helped to defend the river Scheldt against the French troops in Flanders).
