14.10.1673 Sir John Holmes, Rear Admiral of the Blue, President, and 6 named Captains. Report of a Court Marital held on board the Royal Charles in Portsmouth harbor. Depositions were made against Captain Jasper Grant of the Reserve regarding his treatment of his Lieutenant, taking goods out of ships at sea from Captain Ashby and Longstone and discharging men. He was found guilty of a breach of the 23rd and 29th articles of war. Resolved that he be relieved of his Command and never again serve as Commander and that he should appear before the Navy Commissioners in London within 7 days to give security. He was ordered to give Captains Ashby and Longstone bonds of £500 after which he may receive his pay for the relief of his familyADM 106
