Responsible for taking Baron de Tott , Inspector of the Levant Ladders to Alexandria .
The purpose of this mission is to conduct a military reconnaissance of Egypt in anticipation of a subsequent occupation . The project was submitted in 1779 .
Its realization is suspended until the advent of Bonaparte who was inspired by it for his campaign in Egypt .
