Dwight you should be aware that HMS as part of a ships name is a Victorian introduction. So HMS is not part of a ships formal name in 1805, that would be anachronistic.

Also French ships are always refered to with the relevant particle. So as this is a French vessel La is correct, for an English vessel it would just be Bellone, 'the' is not part of the name.

Careful reading would have also informed you that this page records the French privateer La Bellone launched in 1745, not the French merchant vessel La Bellone wrecked off Louisiana in 1725, different vessels.

Next time you want me to correct things, please make sure you are referring to the correct ship.

The actual answer to your spam question is actually the HMS Victory.

Please change the name of this ship to the Bellone not LA Ballone. The La Bellone was built in 1714 and sank near Dauphin Island, Alabama on April 2,1725. French records in the Black book 6 in the Louisiana archives will provide the information to have this changed. I'm very familiar with this French ship as it sunk in my home town. If you have any questions about the actual La Bellone please ask I will help you get it right.

The name of this ship is incorrect it's just The Bellone not LA Bellone. The La Bellone is a completely different ship.

Yes, this is the ship that became the British Bellona. As you can see from the 'Becomes' link.

And it looks tyhat the two French Bellonas are one and the same, the date difference being that between the French Gregorian date and the English Julian date.
