The Privateer 'Bordelais' was commanded by Captain Thomas Manby younger brother of Captain (Army) George William Manby the inventor of the shore to ship Mortar device used to rescue people from stricken vessels stranded on rocks or sandbanks close to shore. Thomas became a Rear Admiral in 1825 adn died nine years later.During his many yewars in the navy he was credited with safely escorting 4753 vessels not one of which was lost.
