Skip, the “Bristol List” of emigrants to Barbados lists Michael Dowie of Ballinure, Country Antrim. He was a yoeman and departed Bristol Dec 13, 1654. He was indentured by Roger Moore, planter in Barbados.
Is it possible you have family in Barbados who spell the name Downiest ?

This is the ship my Ancestor came to America on. Michael Dawley is considered the first generation of Dawleys of Antrim County, Ireland, in 1654, came to America by serving an indenture as a yeoman on the ship Barbados Merchant to Roger Moore, a planter on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean Sea. He settled in the colony of Rhode Island to which he brought his family; a wife, and at least one child; John Dawley. Trying to find out what the ship was doing before the English owned it and why Micheal was on that particular ship with a servant from Barbados.
