Phaeton, at sea ,
My Lord , 31th August , 1798 .
Have the honor to inform your Lordships, that this day His Majesty's Ship under my command , in company with the Anson , captured a french ship privateer of 18 guns , (pierced for 20) and 132 men , called Le Mercure : She sailed from Bordeaux yesterday , bound on a cruize , is quite a new vessel , copper-bottomed and fastened .
