CaptureBG

His Majesty's Schooner Pickle, Plymouth,

SIR, 5th January 1807.

I beg leave to acquaint you, that, on the morning of the 3d inst, the Lizard bearing North 5 leagues, I saw a cutter in the S. E. steering to the Westward, under press of sail, and a brig in chace of her, which proved to be His Majesty's Brig Scorpion; all sail was immediately made to close wiih the cutter, which was effected about 10 o'Clock. We exchanged a few broadsides. Finding he was pushing hard to get to Leeward of us, I laid him on board ; and, in a few minutes, was in possession of the Favorite French Cutter Privateer, E. J. Boutruche, Commander, of 14 guns, with a complement of 70 men, 1 of whom was killed and 2 wounded.

She left Cherbourg on the 1th instant. ; has made no capture ; is well found, aud only 2 months off the stocks. I am sorry to add, that Mr. George Alvey, Acting Master, and 1 seaman, are badly, and Mr. Charles Hawkins, Sub-Lieutenant, slightly, wounded in boarding. The damages we have otherwise received aie trifling. The officers and seamen under my command merit my warmest praise, for their cool and steady conduct. I take the liberty of recommending to their Lordships' notice Mr. Hawkins, Sub-Lieutenant, to whom I am much indebted for his activity and exertions in boarding, and afterwards getting the prize clear. Captain Carteret, on coming up, took the Prisonners on board the Scorpion, to land them at Falmouth.

I have the Honour to be, &c.

DAN. CALLAWAY.
