Morning Post, Saturday, February 14, 1852

Portsmouth Feb. 13

The Cormorant steam sloop, Commander Chamberlain, arrived Spithead, to-day from Rio Janiero, which she left on the 24th December....
The Cormorant comes home with very defective boilers; three out of the four have burst, and the other is little better It has been necessary to give all of them much repair. She has experienced very rough weather in her voyage home. On Tuesday and Wednesday last she got into a furious gale, which did her some damage. During her period of commission, since August, 1849, she has taken the following prizes:- The Actrea, 380 tons; Santa Cruz, 312; Pulina, 328; Renell, 340; Serea, 299; Leonidas, 357; Lucy Anne, 358; Astro, 288 (this was a schooner formerly in the United States navy); Sarah, steamer; Valoroso, (taken wih the aid of the Sharpshooter); and the Feiticiera. This last-named vessel had been captured by the first lieutenant of the Cormorant; but the Brazilians, under whose fort she took shelter, hoisted their national colours, she was surrendered, to prevent misunderstanding. Shptly after, however, she was again taken by the British squadron, being fully equipped as a slaver.
