In 1813, in a petition to the Admiralty, Ann Waldon of 62 St. Aubyn Street, Plymouth, claimed her husband died on board the Duke of Marlborough, commanded by Captain Bull, eight years prior (1805) while defending the ship from the enemy. Widowed with 5 children, Waldon hoped the Admiralty would give her permission to visit navy ships in port, where she made a living selling "necessary articles." They refused.
