Copy of a Letter from Rear-Admiral Sir James Saumarez ,
Bart. and K. B. to William Marfden, Esq;
dated dt Guernsey, the 27th of April1806.
SIR ,
Herewith I inclose, for the Information of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty , a letter I have received from Lieutenant Charles Shackleton of the Rebuff Gun-Brig, acquainting me with the capture of the Sorciere Lugger Privateer, belonging to St. Malo . She surrendered to the Mayflower Privateer, of Guernsey, which joined in the chace, an$ from her fast sailing, came up with her . Great praise is due to Mr. James Laine, her Commander for his activity and exertion's on this occasion.The Sorciere is a remarkable fast sailer and has done immense injury to our trade, particularly off the coast of Ireland, and in the Bristol Channel.

His Majesty Gun-Veffel Rebuff, Guernsey Road , April 27, 1806
" SIR ,
I have to inform you, that on the 26th Instant , at 8 A . M .  Guernsey bearing S. E. distant . 7 leagues, I fell in with a French Lugger Privateer, to which I gave chace . At 2 o'Clock , a Cutter Privateer joined in pursuit from to Windvard,ati'd to which she surrendered at Half-past "Four, after a chace of near 9 hours. She proves to be the Sorcière of 16 guns and 46 men , belonging to St. Malo , out 4 days but had made no Captures.

LLOYD's MARINE LIST-Feb. 4. 1806

La Sorciere French lugger privateer, of 16 guns arid 60 men, and Le Voltigier ditto, of 18 guns and 68 men, 'arrived at Plymouth 11th inst. the former taken by the Attack gun-brig, and the latter by the Growler gun-brig, They failed from St Maloes on Tuefday, and were captured the next day off Ushant.

Lloyd's is reporting a different privateer. See Sorcier of 1806 for the one taken by Attack in January 1806 referred to in the quote.
