M. came within a League of her, and sliewed her our colours , which she answered by hoisting the National Flag ; at 8 it fell calm, in consequence of which we got out sweeps and stood for her till midnight : on the 9 th , at 2 A.M. lost sight of her ; at 5 discovered her about 4 miles a-head , the weat ber continuing to be calm ; at 9 a breeze sprung up , when we set sail after h e r ; at 3 P.M. came within gun-shot of  her , she always attempting to get off ; at half past 3 she took in sail and hove to ; at 4 our came a breast of her within musket-shot , when we attacke  and continued to enagage her for the space of 5 hours , without altering our position ; when she struck , and proved to be Le Troisième Ferrailleur Privateer , belonging to Bordeaux , commanded by François Lugeol , mounting 2 12-pounder carronades and 12  long 4-pounders , 6 of which are Brass, and manned with 68 men , 3 of whom were killed and 5 wounded during the action .
