Portsmouth 10 January 1802: The Walmer Castle, Canton, and Thames, outward-bound East Indiaman, that arrived here on Friday, have taken in 350 recruits from Cowes. The above ships are estimated amongst the finest in the Company’s service. Two hundred and fifty more recruits are to embark on board them to-morrow forenoon. Seven men belonging to the Thames ran away with the boat, came on shore, and immediately absconded. Three of them have been since taken, and conveyed on board he above ship.
