Portsmouth, 6 February 1802: The total number of officers and troops belonging to His Majesty’s Regiments serving in the East Indies, will be embarked at this port, on board the Company’s ships, in the following proportion, viz, for Bengal by the Lady Burges, Lady Jane Dundas, Marquis Wellesley, and Baring, 29 officers and 475 men; for Madras, per Perseverance, Alnwick castle, Cirencester, and Marchioness of Exeter, 19 officers and 825 men, making a total of 1300 non commissioned officers and privates. Portsmouth, 20 June 1801: The following ships from China are expected to arrive before the month of September, viz, The Earl Talbot, Captain J H Dempster; the Lady Burgess, Captain A F W Swinton; the Hugh Inglis, Capt William Fairfax; the Bombay Castle, Capt John Hamilton; the Dorsetshire, Capt John Ramsden; the Coutts, Capt Robert Torin; the Neptune, Capt Nathaniel Spens; and the Exeter, Captain Henry Meriton. The Endymion that sailed from this port of the 2d instant, had orders to convoy the above from St Helena. [Hampshire Telegraph, 22 June 1801]
