London, 26 February 1802: Yesterday advice was received at the India-house of the safe arrival at Portsmouth of the ship Thames, Captain Beevy Elbeck, from the Presidency of Bengal, freighted with a cargo of rice, and one of the ships which sailed from hence last year, with the licence of East India Company. The Thames is the ninth ship of that description which have arrived, of the 32 sent to India for grain. She sailed from the island of St Helena, on the 7th day of January, and left there the Company’s regular ship the Lord Thurlow, Captain John Dale, from Madras and Bengal, and the Georgiana packet, Captain Andrew Grieve, from Bengal, with the Medway (a country ship); the Rose, Captain Christopher Kymer; the Bellona, Captain Edward Lamb; the Ceres, Captain Thomas Todd; the Ganges, Captain Forster Brown; and the Suffolk, Captain John Luke, all rice ships from India.
