On 8th February, 1742, the Princess Augusta, homeward bound from Barbadoes, was attacked 50 leagues to the westward of Scilly by Spanish privateer Nuestra Senora del Rosario y las Animas. “The Bristol ship delivered the first broadside, which was of so effective a character that the enemy’s vessel blew up and all her crew, save five men, were drowned.”
