I also have a relative who was in the Coastgurd service. He got married in November 1821 at Maker, Cornwall, occupation "Mariner on HMS Cheerful", "(ship) lyeing adjing this Parish".

I have CG cutter
CHEERFUL launched 21 Aug 1819 Plymouth 163 tons
Actually I have completed lists of CG vessels 1820-23
Perhaps at the beginong of the next year I will have more.

I suspect that the Cheerful, cutter is a coast guard vessel. A Cheerful is included in a list of coast guard cutters of 1823, but that is the only mention I can find.

According to newspaper reports a new Cheerful cutter was due to be launched in August 1819.

The Cheerful Cutter will be launched this month - Morning Post 10 August 1819

I’m researching my several times great grandfather and have come across some coastguard records for him. These seem to show him being posted to Powerhead in Ireland in 1821/22 from ‘Cheerful Cutter’ so I’m trying to find out more about the boat. This site came up in my google search but seems to say the boat was broken up in 1816? Was there one boat of this name or was ‘cheerful’ a type of cutter?-sorry for the ignorance, I know nothing but am keen to learn! I believe my family to have been in Dartmouth, Devon around 1820 presumably just before posting to Ireland. Any info or suggestions of where else to look for info/records would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
