The following singular circumstance occurred at the Mayor’s-office in Liverpool, on Thursday: a woman applied to the magistrates for a summons to enable her to recover wages, as a seaman, from a captain of a ship; when it appeared that she had served in men’s habits as a sailor in various situations for ten years. She was on board the Phaeton when she retook the famous St Jago prize, and is intitled to her proportion of prize-money on that occasion. She was obliged, it is said, to forgo her accustomed avocation in consequence of an unfortunate tete a tete with one of her shipmates: yet swears like a legitimate son of Neptune, that she will not give up her grog for all the caudle in Christendom. This is a great site! I am trying to find out if the Santiago de Chile, captured by the General Dumourier, which was captured by the Phaeton, was carrying any paintings at the time of its capture. Do you know if there are full details about the contents of the Phaeton's prize, which might indicate this? Thank you so much.
