Portsmouth, 29 June 1816: Capt Charles John Austin, with the officers and part of the crew of his Majesty’s late ship Phoenix, and some of the crew of the Trident, arrived at the Motherbank, on Tuesday, in the Zodiac transport, from Gibraltar. The Medusa, another transport, having on board the remaining part of the crews of those ships, and some stores which had been saved from the Phoenix, sailed from Gibraltar with the Zodiac, but parted company off Cape St Vincent. Portsmouth, 4 May 1816: We are sorry to have to state the loss of the Phoenix frigate, Capt C J Austen, in the Bay of Chisme, near to Smyrna, to which post she was destined, from Malta, having specie and dispatches on board. No life was lost; she was driven on shore in a hurricane. [Hampshire Telegraph, 6 May 1816]

The following persons concerned in the mutiny on board the Grampus, have been executed at Spithead: James Smart, John Preston, and Joseph Croshall, on board the Grampus; and Colin Brown, on board the Phoenix. [Hampshire Chronicle, 22 July 1797]

8 Aug 1801 the frigates Phœnix, Pomone, and Pearl, captured the Carrère, a Venetian-built frigate of 1013 tons sailing under French colours, which was added to the British navy as an 18-pounder 36-gun frigate.
Killed. Thomas Cook, Boatswain ; Samuel Herring, Quarter-Master.
Wounded. Charles Douglas, Lieutenant of Marines, since dead ; John Cox, able seaman, since dead ; John Brown, able seaman ; John Boyd, able seaman
