The Preston returned home in early 1776, not 1775 as listed above. When Admiral Samuel Graves was relieved of command of the North American Station in early January, he sailed for home on January 27, arriving a month later. See historical fiction novel "Distant Thunder" by Timothy J. Krueger for an account of Samuel Graves' time in Boston.

Preston paid off in October 1769 and started a middling to large repair in January 1772. Captain Evelyn Sutton listed as in command from October 1771 to January 1774. Was Preston recommissioned in October 1771 and was he in command during most of a major repair?
