Portsmouth: Yesterday se’nnight, late in the evening, an affray took place, on Common Hard, between Lieutenant Morris of the Saldanha, with Mr Bartlet, purser of the said ship, and John Taylor, and another person belonging to the Quebec, in which Taylor was stabbed to the heart by Morris, and died in a few minutes. The coroner’s jury, after an investigation of seven hours on Saturday, returned a verdict of Manslaughter against Morris, who has been sent to the county gaol at Winchester. Bartlett was not present when Taylor was stabbed, having been previously wounded himself, and carried off. [Hampshire Chronicle, 11 November 1797]

This book is the diary of one of the sailors on the Castor which was renamed to the Saldanha.

I believe the Saldanha was called "De Castor" before the capture. I am looking for a Castor, pink, 650ton, built by a Danish builder and bought by the VOC in 1784.
