My great great grandfather's brother Thomas Wolrige served on the "Stag" and then on the "Jason" with Captain Yorke as Midshipman and Master's Mate. Both he and his older brother William had the dubious distinction of being made French prisoners of war while serving on Jasons, although they were different vessels, although both 38 gun frigates. The first incident occurred when Captain Stirling and crew in 1798 hit an uncharted rock and sank the original HM Jason off Brest. The next HM Jason was captured under Yorke in the Med with the crew taken as prisoners. Both Thomas and William became Post Captains in the end while my own great great grandfather Charles fought at Trafalgar and became Commander in the end and eventually an agent for transports afloat.

HMS Stag 1794 and HMS Pallas 1793 were all members of the Pallas class, source Robert Gardner's The Heavy Frigate. Currently the site only includes HMS Unicorn 1794 as the only member of this class.
