His Majesty’s gun-brig the Hardy, being on a cruise, in company with the Steady, fell in, on the 5th inst at night, with the Swift packet, from Lynn, bound to Sunderland, and finding she was sinking, made every effort to save the people; the Hardy took out of her the master, mate, and one man, and both the commanders saw her sink in a few minutes. [Hampshire Chronicle, 3 March 1798]

19 June 1802. Hardy Lieutenant Mathew Thomas Hewett found guilty of defrauding the Admiralty, two years imprisonment.
